When you have a personal vehicle such as a car, you will of course think about caring for and protecting it in various ways, including by having car insurance. Vehicle insurance will make you feel comfortable and calm when driving on the road. Risks that may occur at any time to the vehicle will be borne by the insurance company.

All this comfort must of course be paid for by a number of obligations to the insurance company in the form of premiums.

As a consumer, of course you always want to get the best service in return for the obligations you have paid. Therefore, it is very important to ensure that you choose and use the best insurance service that suits your needs. This will help you get the best service and maximum benefits.

Claims in Car Insurance

One of the most important things to pay attention to before choosing and using the services of an insurance company is claims. Basically, this process will be the most important stage in insurance services.

A claim is an attempt made by the insured (insurance policy holder) to obtain a certain amount of compensation. This occurs due to an accident or theft of a car insured by the insured to the insurer (insurance company). Claims can be made for all types of car insurance, namely TLO (Total Loss Only) car insurance and All Risk car insurance.

In other words, a claim is a right obtained for an obligation (premium payment) that has been made to the insurer (insurance company) and the insurance company has an obligation to fulfill this.

Claim provisions are generally used as consideration for potential customers if they want to use car insurance. The easier the claims process implemented by insurance companies, the more customers will use their services.

How and Steps to Claim Car Insurance

When the car is damaged or scratched while driving, the customer needs to submit a claim. Claims are made so that the car insurance company will cover repair costs. Here are the steps!

Check the damage first personally

Before submitting a claim, it's a good idea to inspect the damage personally. Look at the location of the scratches on the car body or if there is any other damage when the car is started or driven.

Carrying out a personal check will allow you to know what damage there is to the car and you can explain it better during the claim process. Also document the damage as evidence that can be attached when making a claim.

Contact Car Insurance

After seeing the damage, immediately contact the insurance company and say that you want to file a claim. You can call for the insurance company to come and do a survey, or go directly to a partner workshop and submit a claim there.

Reporting requirements are a maximum of 3 x 24 hours after the incident. So, if possible, report as soon as possible, so as not to be late.

Explain the chronology of events or damage

Explain the chronology clearly and in detail to the insurance company. A chronological explanation is the main factor in whether damage will be covered or not. If the chronology of the damage incident matches the policy provisions, then your claim will be accepted.

On the other hand, if it is not appropriate, the claim will be rejected. The chronological explanation also determines how many “incidents” of damage there were. Usually, for one incident of damage a claim fee of IDR 300,000 is charged. If there are two incidents, the claim fee is IDR 600,000.

For example, one day you are driving a vehicle and experience abrasions due to being hit in the back by another vehicle. When hit, your car moves forward and suffers damage to the front. So this could be said to be one "event" because it happened at the same time.

However, if you experience damage one day, and the next day another damage occurs with a different incident, the insurance will count this as two incidents. Therefore, make sure you convey the chronology correctly and in detail.

Check by Car Insurance

The insurance company will also carry out a damage inspection. The goal is to find out which parts of the car need repair. Usually, damaged car parts will be marked with a marker or chalk.

The surveyor will also confirm the damaged parts to the insured. So it is important for you to know the damage to the car. Also provide documentation of damage for confirmation to the insurance company.

Provide Required Documents

If the claim has been approved, provide the necessary documents such as the insurance policy or its copy, photocopy of KTP, and STNK. If the car is lost due to theft, also provide a police certificate.

After the documents are provided, the agent or surveyor will submit a car insurance SPK which is usually issued within 3-5 working days according to company policy. You also need to pay claim fees at this stage.

Third Party Handling Stage

When you have an accident, a third party could be involved in the incident. For example, a third party is affected or involved in an accident. This will of course require special handling, in order to avoid a number of expenses due to this incident.

Basically, vehicle insurance also covers losses that occur or are experienced by third parties outside the object of coverage which are directly caused by the vehicle owned. This is regulated in the provisions on Legal Liability (TJH) towards third parties which include: motor vehicle damage, property damage, medical costs, bodily disability and even death.

However, in this case, there are several things that must be paid attention to, as below.

  1. Do not take responsibility for third party losses, before ensuring the willingness or approval of the insurance company for this.
  2. Complete the report document for losses experienced by third parties, in this case include third party data:

  • Photocopy of KTP.
  • Photocopy of driver's license.
  • Photocopy of STNK.
  • Statement of claim for compensation.
  • A statement from the police confirming the accident.

Car Insurance Claims Due to Theft

If you lose your car due to theft, the first thing you must do is report it to the authorities and also the insurance company. You must also complete your claim with the following documents.

  • Completely filled in claim form.
  • Photocopy of KTP, SIM, STNK.
  • Certificate from the police.
  • STNK blocking letter.

Follow the applicable procedures so that your car insurance claim goes smoothly

Even though car insurance protection gives you peace of mind, still follow the procedures correctly. Claims will be rejected if they do not meet the terms and conditions or do not follow the steps properly.

Therefore, don't let your insurance claim be rejected and follow the procedure correctly. I hope this information is helpful!
