A woman sharing the same medical condition as President Donald Trump has disclosed that it leaves her battling "constant fatigue."
Mariya Ali first spotted noticeable veins on her legs during her teenage years but dismissed them as a result of her "fair skin." With time, the 77 year old witnessed her spider, blue veins becoming increasingly prominent across her thighs and beneath her knees. Mariya detailed experiencing heavy legs upon waking and morning exhaustion.
In January 2025, she sought help from a vascular cardiologist who, following an ultrasound examination, confirmed she had chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a disorder affecting damaged leg veins. On July 17, 2025, reports emerged that Trump had received a CVI diagnosis after experiencing "mild swelling" in his lower extremities.

Mariya, a research technologist in Cleveland, Ohio, is now undergoing various treatments, including laser procedures for her veins, and relies on compression tights as part of her daily routine.
"I can feel heaviness in my legs. I feel fatigued like I have been walking around all day," Mariya said. "Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, I wake up with pain and feel fatigued.
"Even though venous insufficiency is just in my legs, it radiates through my body. It makes me feel tired like my day is already ended."
Mariya disclosed that she had been wrestling with CVI symptoms since her youth, originally chalking them up to her light skin tone. She noted that despite bringing up her concerns with multiple doctors throughout the years, they merely recommended she use compression stockings.

"I've had symptoms for a very long time. The first symptoms I saw were when I was a teenager," she said. "As I got older, I noticed the symptoms were getting worse, and I started seeing more veins appear up and down my legs.
"I brought it up a couple of times over the years, but doctors didn't appear concerned, and I would be told to wear compressions."
In addition to observing an increase in visible veins on her legs, Mariya reported feeling heaviness in her legs in the morning and experiencing fatigue. In January 2025, she sought medical attention at the Cleveland Clinic, where she underwent a visual assessment and leg ultrasound.
It was during this visit that Mariya received her CVI diagnosis. Reflecting on the moment, Mariya said: "I wasn't surprised when I got the diagnosis, I was a little relieved, if I am honest.

"Whenever you have a persistent condition that you have dealt with your whole life, and someone puts a name to it you get a sense of relief," she continued. "I have to wear compression tights all day long. I sometimes can feel the heaviness in my legs, I feel fatigued like I have been walking around all day. I get aches, deep aches in certain parts of my legs."
Earlier this month, the White House announced that Donald Trump has been diagnosed with CVI, following "mild swelling" in his lower legs.
Highlighting the importance of public figures discussing their health struggles, Mariya stated: "I think it is really important for people in high-profile positions to raise awareness. It is important that they raise awareness about the condition and advocate for research funding."
In an apparent dig at the president, she added: "I think if you are high profile and you have this condition, it is your obligation to raise awareness around it.
